This was our second kettle of this type (the first one died in its 14th month -- hopefully a one off).

We tried another inbetween but missed this model too much so paid the extra to get another.

This is an all round great kettle, fast boiling, not too flashy, but chique and attractive. The one problem is that this specific kettle (not the model in general) has a lid that keeps sticking.

Designer kettle - badly designed
By squirrel from UK on 6/12/2008
Pros:
Boils Quickly, Clear Boiling Indicator, Comfortable Grip, Tight Lid
Cons:
Difficult to Clean, Expensive and fails
Best Uses:
French Press, Instant Coffee, Tea
Describe Yourself:
Everyday Drinker
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

My first kettle stopped working at 12 months 5 days and Breville did agree to honour their warranty and replaced it. The second one failed within a few days and the third one failed after another 4 months. I am in the process of returning this one also and will be exchanging for a completely different model. There is obviously something very wrong with this kettle. Do not buy it.

Bought as a set with the toaster. Toaster is fine but I will not buy another of these kettles.

Faulty neon light indicator

Lovely looking kettle but then it shold be at the price. However, my kettle is only 9 months old and the blue neon 'ON' light has started to intermittenly fail. The lid isn't a great fit either. A bit fur coat and no knickers....Not impressed.

Great looking kettle this is my third I keep buying because I like the look of it but the last two have had an electrical fault just after the 12 month guarantee period. [...]

Unreliable
By 6feetunderdog from UK on 3/7/2008
Pros:
Stylish
Cons:
Expensive unreliable
Best Uses:
Excellent for 6 months
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I'm on my second JK71. I bought it as it looks really good and sturdy, however within 6 months it would not boil. That was sent back and I got a replacement no problem. However this one has lost its boil within 9 months of normal use at home. I still love the look of it but I'm going to replace it with something else now. Not happy, especially as it retails at around £50!

By The CommanderVerified Reviewer from Southhampton, UK on 11/25/2007
Pros:
Durable, High Quality, Smart Design
Cons:
Expensive
Bottom Line:

A smart looking appliance that lights up nicely when switched on, boils quickly and dings when the water has boiled. However, unlike my previous Breville kettle this one does not switch off when lifted from its base. Fortunately there is a safety cut-off to prevent damage in the event of the kettle being dry. Overall a tidy product.

Good Value
Cons:
Needs descaling already, Shows finger marks

Love the kettle. It looks good in my new kitchen with my matt stainless steel appliances. Gives a satisfying ping when it has boiled. First time I filled it struggled with the water guage but after you have used it once it is always easy to read.

A joy to use. Solid and well built it can cope with all volumes from one cup to 6 mugs. And the gliding lid is a brilliant concept.
