very useful for me as I have hardwood floors with rugs and the Roomba copes well with both. you do have to remember to tuck the rug fringes under the rug though. also great for me as I have a dodgy knee and lugging a normal vacuum cleaner about is painful!
The Roomba is such a good invention. My partner and I both work full time and never seemed to be able to keep on top of the cleaning - especially because we have 2 cats. This is great - it vacuums for us! We sit down with a nice cuppa and watch it work for us. Genius!
Used on a daily basis on both carpet and hard flooring.
With a little bit more foresite a set of interchangeable brushes would help.
A list of parts available to buy would help when you buy the item.
Advice regarding when the Roomba for washing the floors will be available.
I have recommended this Roomba to a friend who lives nearby and she has bought one.
We use this product throughout the house. The most satisfying thing is that you can lock it in a room confident that the floor will be completely clean and dirt free when you return. it is light for transportation anywhere around the home. We honestly cannot think of any bad things to say about it and are seriously considering getting a Scuba Roomba shortly.
Very good with pet hair on short pile carpet, i'd vacuumed as normal a few minutes before i used the irobot. When the irobot had finished it's bin was almost full!
Since i got this irobot i found a cheap copy elsewhere, and it's not a patch on the irobot.
(lasting a fraction of the time and picking up a fraction of the dirt of the irobot)
i see that irobot have released a new version, i know what i'll be getting for xmas. (it fixes the only problem i had where it could trap it's self on rug edges)
Switch it on, close the doors, and leave... and come back to a hoovered room. Nice one.
Couple of reservations:
- Doesn't like tassles on rugs at all - but flipping over the rug deals with that.
- Sometimes can't find it's way home to recharge
Small points really.
The main reason for purchasing the Roomba was its ability to clean floors without the need for anyone to be present. The Virtual Wall which is supplied with it is very useful in creating an artificial barrier. In my experience the battery lasts for around 50 minutes before the need for a recharge. The only disadvantage of this machine is the need for frequent cleaning of the brushes as well as emptying.
The Roomba is initially fun to watch but after that wears off you notice how noisy it is (not really suprising for a vacuum cleaner). However it is great to leave on when you are out. It provides a general clean if you use it a couple of times a week. It isn't a replacement for your standard vacuum cleaner as it can't clean in all the nooks and crannies but it does make life easier.
I use the roomba daily, I do downstairs Roomba does upstairs, you have to clean it out after every use for maximum results. Brilliant product.
If you have a dog who casts hairs and are fed up getting the hoover out the roomba is ideal. Better suction than my regular hoover. Very easy to handle and maintain. Put it in a room and off it goes. Small downsides - you have to tidy power cords out of its way, can get stuck under some radiators, doesn't get right into some corners but now I only have to get the Henry hoover out once a week so yeehaa!!
I bought this in spite of much scepticism from my friends and I am pleased to say that they were quite wrong. This little vacuum is a marvel in miniature. I have a big apartment with all wood floors and a very hairy cat. The Roomba gets switched on as I’m leaving each day and when I get back, there’s not a hair or spot to be seen and the vacuum is charging under the table. I hope they make a model that will buff the floors too. It does not cope well with my bedroom carpet through. Buy one for your hard floors and you won’t be sorry and your mates will be jealous.
I prepare the room set the machine and go out and walk the dog, when I return the carpet is pristine.
I find it abit difficult to clean the brushes.
I have not found anywhere to get spares.
Three of my friends have bought the same model
We use the Roomba regularly and find it very useful. I can do something else while cleaning up -as I can whilst doing the washing.
It is small, convenient and very easy to use - just wish it would also do the stairs - (I realise that is not possible).
When my daughter saw it she loved it, so we bought her one for Christmas, and her kids love it.
Pros: Oooh factor, will go under chairs, beds etc.
Cons: Despite many visits to user forums and Roomba customer support, the thing simply does not work as described. Roomba themselves suggested taping over the cliff sensors to prevent its erratic reversing movements (but it has no rear touch sensors, so it gets stuck and beeps for help every minute or so). Now it just emits a low beep when asked to do anything. It worked fine for about a week, but now has reverted to original unhelpfulness. All physical checks have been checked - dustbin, wheels, sensors, battery, etc but I guess it just has lousy software and lousy design. A friend suggests it is worth pursuing a replacement from Roomba, because build quality is variable and you may need to swap out 2 or 3 until you get a "good" one. But I am not prepared to do Roomba's QC for them. Too good to be true? It is.
absolutely great to set the little roomba off and let it clean the place whilst you sit back and relax.
if you didn't have to clean it afterwards that would be even better (but i still prefer to do that than vacuuming the house).
Makes you plan and organise the cleaning so the floor is clear of clutter. Overall, a great machine with amazing programming (you spend most of the first use watching it navigate around the room).
I used to have a filthy house because I was too busy and too tired to vacuum. Now my floors at least are clean.
The bachelor's best friend. Just throw your [*] on the floor and let mister roboto take care of it. Really. If you want floors just clean enough to impress the ladies in your life with no effort at all, then this is the artificial friend for you. Just press the clean button and go to the pub. Easy and surprisingly effective. This and the Dyson DC16 handheld, for corners and the odd bits and pieces, are all I ever needed cleaning wise. At least until I can afford a place with stairs. Or a Roomba is able to fly like a Dalek. Or...yeah, yeah... or I get a wife.
Switch it on, put your feet up and watch it go!
Awesome. My house has never been cleaner. :-)
This is the greatest home appliance after the dishwasher. Absolutley brilliant. Simply turn it on before you leave for work and you come back to a house with clean floors. You can buy a scheduler for it but it's not that hard to press a button. The Roomba has enough power to clean the entire floor of the house ( 5 rooms ). The only slight issue is that you have to make sure that there are no cables or loose rug tassles on the floor as the robot doesn't like these. Other than that it's fantastic. Anything that makes my life easier is a winner with me.
